A golden opportunity
At the centre of Warsaw lies Złote Tarasy, an innovative mixed use development. Our team in Warsaw was perfectly placed, in terms of location and experience, to project manage this exciting part of Warsaw’s transformation into a modern commercial hub.
Translated as ‘Golden Terraces’, Złote Tarasy has 200 stores and restaurants, a cinema and three commercial office towers. The building’s defining feature is a single membrane glass roof which envelops the mall.
A geometric quilt
The complex roof design represents a cloth draped over seven spheres. This element was critical, so we involved contractors and suppliers at an early stage. This allowed us to de-risk installation by consulting with specialists to develop solutions.
With 4,700 individual panes of glass, completing this element to a high standard was key, so our project director visited the supplier in Germany, reviewing production and finished elements against specifications.
For assembly, each separately numbered pane was inserted in exactly the right position for the roof to become the envisaged rippled structure. The Discovery Channel filmed construction and roof assembly as part of a series on amazing achievements in engineering and architecture.
Intended to spark further rejuvenation in Warsaw, Złote Tarasy brought a new destination to the heart of the city and provided more than 2,000 permanent jobs. The office towers have added space to Warsaw’s central business district and the city’s infrastructure was improved dramatically.
The project was finished on time and to budget, welcoming more than 100,000 visitors on its first day of trading in February 2007.
