How we built a forty tower “lifestyle destination” from the sands of Dubai

The eyes of the industry were all turned to Dubai in 2005 to see whether the colossal wave-shaped Jumeirah Beach Residences, spanning 1.7 kilometres of Gulf shoreline, bringing together teams from five continents, and breaking records as the largest ever single phased residential scheme of its time in the world, could be delivered on time. It could. Working to an extremely fast-tracked programme the project, comprising of 40 towers and an 186,000 square metre resort, was completed on schedule, 40 months after work began. To put that achievement into perspective, that required one floor per tower to be completed every two weeks, with the team working around the clock.

Driving best practice across five continents

As well as being appointed as project and cost manager, Mace took on the role of client’s representative, which meant we provided the detailed framework to deal with the complexities of design management across five continents – and to drive best practice through procurement, planning, logistics and cost control.

A large part of the project lay in coordinating the large multinational workforce that numbered in excess of 22,000 at construction peak, while also maintaining a healthy and safe working environment for the thousands of people on site.

“We are thrilled to have been a part of creating such an iconic and ground-breaking development as Jumeirah Beach Residences. Not only have we helped to create a landmark of luxury in Dubai, but the project has helped establish our international credibility in delivering high rise buildings and in the residential sector”
