London’s tallest village
Accommodating one of the largest private aquariums in London and so tall it contains its own villages, at 230 metres, Heron Tower is the tallest building in the City of London. Having built our reputation in the London commercial office market, we were appointed at a very early stage to deliver this unique development. The end result is a world class mixed use complex in the heart of the square mile.
Fast pace, big city
With a tight programme we set up a change control procedure to keep within budget, and checked quality benchmarks were met at every stage. We also managed the design development and procured contractors before negotiating a fixed price for second stage completion. Responding to the fast pace, we drove the design process and managed the extensive enabling works package, reconfiguring traffic to minimise disruption.
One of the biggest challenges was the constrained site which was overcome using an innovative top down method. The net floorplate was also pushed to the edge of the site, releasing more clear and flexible lettable area.
Clear as glass
As London’s first ‘six star’ office development, sustainability was a key part of the building and it achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating. Extensive use of glass maximises daylight and a veil of photovoltaic cells generates renewable energy.
Designed to age gracefully, Heron Tower helped set new standards in the industry. Our involvement cemented our reputation in bringing innovative and unique towers to the London skyline.
